International Baccalaureate
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We would like to inform you of an important update regarding the International Baccalaureate (IB) program pathways offered at Catholic Central. The current Grade 10 students (entering Grade 11 in the 2025-2026 school year) will be the last IB class that will be able to choose the IB Career-Related Programme. Beginning with the current Grade 9 students (entering Grade 11 in the 2026–2027 school year), the IB Career-Related Programme (IBCP) will no longer be available as a pathway option.
Moving forward, students will be able to pursue either the IB Full Diploma Programme or IB Courses as part of their high school experience.
This decision was not made lightly. Many factors were carefully considered, including student interest, scheduling constraints, and alignment with our long-term vision for IB programming at Catholic Central. We remain committed to providing a rigorous and supportive IB experience that meets the diverse needs and aspirations of all students.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss how these changes may affect your child's academic planning, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Sincerely,
Carla Mascherin
IB Coordinator
The IB Programmes prepare students for university and encourages them to:
- Ask challenging questions
- Develop a strong sense of their own identity and culture
- Develop the ability to communicate with and understand people from other countries and cultures
- Gain professional development
Any school, or group of schools, wishing to offer one or more International Baccalaureate programmes as an IB World School must first be authorized. The requirements are the same for all schools, and the procedure is designed to ensure that schools are well prepared to implement the programme(s) successfully. All IB World Schools are required to participate in an ongoing process of review and development, using the same programme standards and practices.
As part of its ongoing commitment to the development of a highly skilled global learning community, the IB provides a wide range of high-quality professional development opportunities to help new, experienced and expert school leaders and educators understand, support, and successfully deliver IB programmes reflecting IB standards and practices.
