LEAP

The Leaders in Exercise and Athletics Program allows senior students (upon acceptance) at Catholic Central High School in London, Ontario, to gain industry certifications and insight into athletics and exercise. During the cooperative education course, students gain certifications in: National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP), First Aid and CPR, and multiple others at no cost to them. When enrolled in cooperative education course; students gain volunteer hours and job shadow in many areas related to athletics and exercise. How do the students gain all courses needed for graduation? During regular uninterrupted core subjects! Opportunities to go in the community are met through a co-op course as well as through field trips and job shadowing.

The LEAP program does not attract any one specific type of student. We are looking for unique, academic, applied, essential level learner, who shows interest in sports, health, wellness and community service. Students do NOT need to be on a competitive team, but have a background in sports and/or movement (e.g. dance, karate, yoga, etc.). If you are unsure if you qualify, please contact Mrs. Glover and Mrs. Tucker-Deluce.

The elementary schools in the London District Catholic School Board are a crucial partner to the program as the students practice leading others in various sports, fitness circuits, and games in the elementary school environment during their cooperative education course. Under the guidance of thoughtful and patient teachers, the students are able to gain confidence leading others in a safe environment. Within the Cooperative Education course (gr. 11 - 2 credits) - students will achieve multiple certifications, volunteer opportunities, connect with local community businesses and LDCSB elementary schools. The LEAP program sincerely thanks the following LDCSB communities for fostering this great partnership. St. Mary's, St. Michael, St. Martin, St Joseph's F.I., St. Sebastian, St. Kateri, St. Jude, Holy Rosary, Blessed Sacrament, and many other fabulous LDCSB and TVDSB elementary schools - your support is much appreciated!

The ideal "value" to gain from graduating from this program is how to be an effective leader and communicator. Students are encouraged to pursue any post-secondary pathway of their choice upon graduation. LEAP is simply a fantastic way to finish off the last two years of high school if you are an Athleader that wants to learn more about training, leading effectively, teamwork, communication, and the specific attributes needed to play your sport at the next level or coach.
